Privacy notice

This notice explains what information Higher Computing Science keeps about your child and you, why, who can see it, and your rights. It is written for parents and carers, who create pupils' accounts.

Who we are

Higher Computing Science is run by the teacher who created it. If you have a question about your child's information, or want to use any of your rights below, email hello@higher-computing.co.uk.

What we keep

  • About your child: their name, username and town, which you give when you create the account.
  • About you: your name and email address, and what you agreed to when you created the account (and when).
  • Your child's learning: which notes and lessons they have finished; their quiz and mock exam answers and scores, including how sure they said they were; their coding exercise progress; and the marks they give themselves for past papers.
  • Technical records: like any website, the site's software (Moodle) keeps logs of logins and pages visited, including the internet address used. These are used to keep the site working and secure.
  • Payments: payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or keep card details. We receive the payer's name, email address and the amount paid.

Why we keep it

  • To give your child the course you have paid for: their account, their progress and their dashboard. (Lawful basis: our contract with you.)
  • To send you the weekly progress email, if you asked for it. You can stop it at any time. (Your consent.)
  • To keep the site secure and working. (Our legitimate interests.)

Who can see it

  • The teacher who runs the site, to support your child and run the course.
  • Your child, and you through the weekly email and progress report.
  • Anyone your child or you give the progress report link to, such as a tutor. You can cancel the link at any time from the dashboard by making a new one.
  • Other pupils cannot see your child's name, results or progress. There are no leaderboards.
  • Companies that run parts of the service for us, only for that purpose: our web host, our email delivery service and Stripe for payments. Your information is kept in the UK or the European Economic Area.

We do not sell information, show adverts or use advertising or tracking cookies.

Cookies

The site uses only the cookies it needs to work, such as the one that keeps your child logged in. The coding lessons save unfinished work in the browser.

We count visits to the public pages (such as the home page and the question of the week) without cookies: just a number per page per day, and which link or website the visit came from (for example a Facebook post). No IP address or other detail about the visitor is kept. When an account is created, we note which link the family arrived by, so we can tell which posts are useful.

How long we keep it

We keep an account and its learning records while access lasts and for 12 months after it ends, so a pupil coming back can carry on. Then we delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner at any time. Payment records are kept for as long as the law requires for tax purposes.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold, to have it corrected or deleted, to have a copy to take elsewhere, and to object to how we use it. Email hello@higher-computing.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your child's information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Changes

If we change this notice in a way that matters, we will email you. Version 1, October 2026.
